You will serve as a Lead Engineer of the South Tongue of the Ocean Acoustic Measurement Facility (STAFAC) in the Acoustic Measurement Facility Improvement Program (AMFIP) of NSWC CARD DIV D. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15.

Duties

You will have primary responsibility for technical oversight of acoustic signatures measurement system development, integration, validation and operational transition required to ensure requirements compliance in support of COLUMBIA acoustic trials. You will provide technical leadership to Integrated Product Teams including array design and production; mooring and mechanical; beamforming, signal processing and analysis; tracking; integration, test and validation; security and surveillance. You will resolve issues associated with complex acoustic array, data telemetry and measurement system designs. You will coordinate, review and approve subsystem electrical, optical and software interfaces. You will ensure development of appropriate system and user level technical documentation. You will provide direction for subsystem and system level verification and validation test method development and execution. You will identify sparing and maintenance requirements to support the system lifecycle.

Qualifications

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), an Electrical Engineer (0850-series), a Computer Engineer (0854-series), an Electronics Engineer (0855-series), or a Computer Scientist (1550-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Education

Applicants must meet at least one of the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

• Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics; OR
• Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
