This position is located in the Maintenance Division at Voyageurs National Park.
A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.
Duties
Performing extensive carpentry on non-historic and historic structures according to federally defined guidelines.
Performing dock repairs as well as building new docks to include crib structures, shore connectors, bank retaining structures, and floating docks.
Performing trail clearing operations on land-based hiking trails, cross country ski trails, snowshoe trails, and snowmobile portage trail systems parkwide.
The incumbent will also be responsible for winter operations which will include grooming the land-based trail systems as well as the established ice-based trail systems by utilizing a snowmobile, a side-by-side with tracks, and the larger groomer with various drag attachments for each. Other duties will include working with staff with ice checking operations, plowing ice roads with a pickup truck and plow attachment, as well as snow removal at visitor centers walkways and parking lots parkwide.
Assisting shop mechanics with associated tasks related to services and repairs when requested. Delivering equipment to dealerships for warranty work and specialty services. Shuttling equipment and materials to various work sites within the park.
Assisting with the support of various utility operations and repairs as well as road repair projects.
