This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Director of Operational Logistics, Base Kodiak Public Works Division in Kodiak, AK. 

Duties

You will serve as a Firefighter, Intermediate Life Support, Driver/Operator.  You will provide aircraft crash fire protection, structural fire protection, vessel fire protection, hazardous materials response, weapons of mass destruction response, confined space rescue, and emergency medical services.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to undergo pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Max 37 years of age entry restriction (see questions for more information).

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-08 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Some examples of specialized experience include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office. Incumbent must maintain Alaska State Emergency Medical Technician III Certification. Incumbent must maintain a valid Alaska state vehicle operator's license.
