This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: As an Engineer Equipment Greaser assigned to the Mat Sinking Unit; River Operations Branch, you will be assigned to one of three field revetment units engaged in bank stabilization and related work.
Duties
Stand one 10-hour shift and observe the operation of all mechanical equipment of a specially designed electric hydraulic floating bank grader.
Oil, grease, and clean all of the equipment and components stated above as needed or periodically.
Inspect for oil leaks, loose packing, loose bolts, nuts, pins. etc., overheating and apparent malfunctioning of equipment.
Make minor adjustments and repairs and notifies operator when in doubt and when various trouble is obvious.
Assist operator and mechanics in making repairs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment physical.
- Successfully pass pre-employment drug screen as well as random drug screening.
- Work in inclement weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineer Equipment Greaser without more than normal supervision. Duties include: oiling, greasing, and other servicing tasks on a wide variety of engineer construction equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Incumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hand-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: Incumbent works inside and outside, is subject to temperature extremes, cuts, bruises, eye infections, burns, dust, fumes, injury while working near moving machinery, including loss of bodily members. Clothes are quickly soiled, noise is intermittent but difficult to talk above, and the presence of grease, oil, steam, etc., produces an unpleasant order.
