The Telephone Operator position is located at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS), specifically within the Patient Experience Office. The service provides 24/7 coverage for both telephones and security services. The primary purpose of the position is to process incoming calls and other alarms.

Duties
***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION***
Duties include but may not be limited to:
Operates a digital multi-line telephone system.
Handles incoming commercial and Federal Telecommunication Systems (FTS) calls, local and information calls, calls pertaining to patients.
Places long distance and overseas calls when very little information is forthcoming from caller.
Remains calm and collected while handling emergencies.
Provides proper response to alarms.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Overnight position which is typically 11pm- 8am, including weekends. Shifts to be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Requires at least one (1) full year of General Experience - progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates your ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Telephone Operator.(Resume(s) must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. We will not make assumptions regarding experience.)

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Requires two (2) years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business secretarial or technical school community college junior college or college university.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Requires equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high education and experience, as described above, to meet total qualification requirements for this position this education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school community college, junior college or college university.
