You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER/ FIREFIGHTER (HAZMAT OPS) in the Navy Fire & Emergency Services Department of NAVAL AIR STATION FALLON.

Duties

You will control and extinguish a fire during firefighting operations. You will inspect equipment (e.g., fire extinguisher, sprinkler systems, exits) to verify they are fully operational and meet regulatory requirements. You will decontaminate hazardous material response equipment and supplies (e.g., protective clothing, respiratory devices, chemical mitigation agents) for preventative maintenance. You will use personal protective equipment to comply with safety and health directives (e.g., OSHA).

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

Qualifications

GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Performing initial and on-going patient assessment and physical exam; and 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents. NOTE: THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SUPPORTED IN YOUR RESUME TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, Airport Firefighter, HAZMAT Operations, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NR-EMT).These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-5:
Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training
OR
Acombination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Your percentage of the required education plus your percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.
