This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to perform as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position located in the Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) Section/Laboratory of Aircraft Maintenance. The purpose of the position is to inspect aerospace components, parts, and materials by applying the full range of ultrasonic, eddy current, radiographic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrate, or other accepted NDI processes in accordance with inspection guidelines. Additionally, the position may be established in a one-worker shop operation and, as such, be held fully and technically responsible for the NDI function. In addition, trains reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.
DUTIES:
Using the ultrasonic-eddy current processes, performs inspections of aerospace components, parts, and other materials for which inspection procedures and/or acceptability standards are inadequate or not available.
Conducts industrial radiography (x-ray) tests on aerospace components and parts. Operates radiographic equipment to examine a relatively unlimited variety of aerospace parts with similar configuration characteristics and inspection locations.

locations and Spectrometric Oil Analysis Program (SOAP) work.
Performs Complete Oil Breakdown Rate Analyzer (COBRA) work. Operates a COBRA unit. Sets up, maintains, and calibrates COBRA equipment. Performs daily battery operation and instrument zero checks. Performs complete
instrument check with calibration oil.
Prepares for, trains, and participates in the training of reservists. Additionally, utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. Provides clear and accurate guidance and on-the-job training to others. Provides accurate feedback on training progress and recommends to proper authority the
readiness of the trainee to assume more complex work.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is to do the job of a Nondestructive Tester without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) trade; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the industrial radiology trade; skill in the selection and use of testing equipment.
Knowledge of and ability to use radiology systems, equipment or accessories; knowledge of basic shop mathematics or handbook formulae to calculate basic values or specifications, and ability to operate a computer.
Ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment; ability to calibrate equipment used in the industrial radiology trade, and ability to locate component/part deficiencies and recommend resolution.
Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders; knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security.
Knowledge of USAF Technical Order program and its procedures; knowledge of requirements and skill in the use of SOAP and COBRA.

Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing (without aid).
