About the Position: Location is in the Radiology department at Kenner Army Health Clinic, the office and exam room are together with an attached changing room for patients. The set hours for Ultrasound are 0700-1600, with lunch from 1200-1300. Monday through Friday only. Patients are scheduled every 45 minutes, and if available space and the exam allows, the occasional walk in patient. Generally non emergent patients, mostly ambulatory patients.
Duties
Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams such as abdomens, small parts, upper and lower extremities, pelvis, neonatal heads, obstetric sonography etc.
Select, set up, adjust and operate ultrasound equipment.
Assist in performance of invasive procedures on patient such as but not limited to aspirations, nephrostomies, or amniocentesis.
Trains radiologists, physicians, and other personnel in ultrasound principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques, and equipment.
Develops ultrasound training plans for incorporation in other programs of instruction.
Explain procedures to patients in order to reduce fears.
Review consultation requests from primary care providers to determine type of ultrasound examination for patient.
Requirements
- Tier 1: This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.

- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- A Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI) is required.
- Hepatitis B: Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Tuberculosis (TB): This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- Lifting (Moderate/Heavy): Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Physical: This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Basic Life Support (BLS): This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Influenza: This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes performing a wide variety of ultrasound examinations on human patients; setting up, adjusting, operating or maintaining ultrasound and diagnostic equipment; and assisting providers in reading or evaluating ultrasound results.

Education: Successful completion of one and a half years (i.e., 27 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Radiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
