This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Applies a variety of graphic arts techniques, including freehand and mechanical lettering, to produce signs, posters, and displays for inside and exterior use, including building and reflective traffic signs. Operates and maintains a PC based computer aided design/manufacturing system for traffic and military signs as well as regulatory, warning, guide and motorist information signs. Performs computer graphics design for traffic controls and military signs utilizing Omega 5.0 Composer or similar software. Uses a large sheet metal shear to perform basic cuts on aluminum sheet metal to proper size. Answers sign related inquiries from the general public or other agencies or directorates. Drives a utility truck or similar vehicle to and from the work site in order to transport self, supplies, and other employees.

Requirements

  • Employee must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license in order to operate a government owned vehicle to transport self, supplies, and other from job site to job site.
  • Employee is required to successfully pass physical examination as required by Federal and Office of Safety and Occupational Health Administration guides.
  • Employee utilizes an automated information system comprised of hardware and software components in accomplishing the work.
  • This position is designated as essential during inclement weather.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a successful background investigation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Sign Painter (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties as appropriate. I can produce signs, posters, and displays for inside and exterior use, including building and reflective traffic signs using a variety of graphic art techniques, including freehand and mechanical lettering and computer based design software. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Work requires continual movement of hand and arm, standing, reaching, and bending, as well as lifting materials up to 5 kilograms (10 pounds). Occasionally, some projects may require heavier effort in doing tasks such as erecting signs or displays, kneeling to letter vehicles and equipment or climbing ladders. At times, sign painters may handle items up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Operates a motor vehicle and operates controls to start, stop, back-up and drive vehicle. Working Conditions: Most work is performed indoors in adequately lighted and heated shops, although some is performed outdoors in good weather. Some outdoor projects may require work near moving vehicles, from ladders, and creates the possibility of falls. Employee is subject to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and irritation of eyes and skin from exposure to fumes, solvents, or paints.
