Duties

Performs routine preventive maintenance on heating systems and refrigeration and air conditioning units. Visually examines and operationally tests electric, electronic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems and equipment using specialized test equipment. Analyzes defects and determines the extent of repairs required. Examines equipment or machine components for excessive wear in accordance with established schedules and makes replacements as required. Works from oral instructions, wiring diagrams, and work orders which indicate the nature of the repair to be made to maintain and repair lighting fixtures and wiring, power fixtures and wiring, power sources, and/or fire alarm systems.

Requirements

  • Position maybe filled as a time -limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade NTE 1 year by current Army employee.
  • Time-limited appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed 5 years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • This is designated as a drug testing position. Incumbent must participate in a random drug testing program in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • The incumbent of this position must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State and government driving license in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position involves duties which are subject to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations regarding hazardous wastes.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position may required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the employee to possess the applicable license(s) or authorizations(s) to operate assigned equipment.
  • This position may require to be recalled to duty.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • May require heavy lifting up to 44 lbs.
  • This position may require Business Travel (TDY) up to 5%.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. without more than normal supervision which includes:(1) Performing routine maintenance on heating systems, refrigeration, and/or air conditioning units; (2) Installing, maintaining and/or repairing industrial equipment; and; (3) Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical infrastructure up to 480 volts. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. (INCLUDING BLUEPRINT READING)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIR, ETC.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)USE OF MEASURING INSTRUMENTS (MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONIC, AS APPROPRIATE TO LINE OF WORK) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires frequent handling of objects weighing up to 44 pounds; assistance or lifting devices are provided for lifting and carrying of objects weighing in excess of 44 pounds. Employee is required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crouch, kneel, climb, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery for substantial periods of time. Occasionally, platforms and scaffolding are needed. WORKING CONDITIONS: usually perform work inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. They are exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises, electrical shocks, respiratory ailments, noise and vibration from machines, bad weather and sudden temperature changes. Occasionally they climb and work from ladders, stagings, scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more exposing the repairers to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, face shields, respirators, safety shoes, and glasses are used.
