This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking.

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to operate and maintain the swimming pools, potable water systems, oil water separators, flood control systems and the integral parts of associated components. Disassembles the equipment, makes repairs, conducts preventive maintenance, and assembles component parts. Performs work that involves visual inspection of predefined construction areas. Read and interpretation of utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, while using special electronic equipment to actually detect and locate said utilities. Performs the full range of work involved in the operations, maintenance, servicing and repair of potable water systems, swimming pools, oil water separators, cross connection/backflow preventers, flood control systems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and keep current a valid driver's license and any installation and/or DOD requirement for the type of vehicle being operated.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or rotational shifts.
  • Assures that environmental, safety, and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, harnesses, hard hat and safety shoes is required.
  • Employee is required to attain a forklift license within six months of employment.
  • A pre-employment physical is required and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires 10% temporary duty travel (TDY).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision: perform simple tasks including repairing, operating and maintaining swimming pools, potable water systems, oil water separators, flood control systems or I have received training in repairing, operating and maintaining swimming pools, potable water systems, oil water separators, flood control systems.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and where parts of the system are in hard-to-reach places. Frequently lifts and carries items that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally handles heavier items, usually with assistance of another person or of mechanical devices. Work is frequently done from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. The work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposed to mud, water, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections from unsanitary work sites. Incumbent has occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones. Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes are required. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn. Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
