About the Position: This position is with the 88th Readiness Division, Safety Office, located at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

Duties

Evaluate the organization's safety and occupational health program. Determine effectiveness of the safety and occupational health program. Survey, inspect, and certify outdoor firing ranges. Investigate and report accidents. Conduct site visits to determine potential safety hazards. Recommend corrective measures to eliminate unsafe work practices. Prepare written reports of investigations. Advise on safety policies and procedures. Review and implement safety campaigns.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must have completed Level I Skills related training as outlined in the Army Career Program (CP-12) Master Training Plan or within one year of appointment.
  • Must pass physical examination and be physically able to perform job requirements for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Managing a safety or occupational health program; 2.) Developing and recommending safety and occupational health programs or policies to higher level officials; 3.) Interpreting, applying and/or developing safety and occupational health laws, regulations, policies, procedures or standards; 4.) Evaluating existing safety programs; 5.) Inspecting workplaces to determine possible hazards; 6.) Applying safety and occupational health knowledge to reduce or control hazards; and 7.) Conducting safety training. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Safety and HealthSafety and Occupational Health (SOH) Hazard ControlWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
