This position is located at the Trident and Goose Creek Community Based Outpatient Clinics, Primary Care Service Line. The position of Health Technician is established to provide support in a wide variety of basic clinical and intermediate level administrative activities. The incumbent must ensure compliance with VA regulations, JCAHO standards and other regulatory agencies.
Duties
Performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. Actively supports the team concept and function as a team player. Contributes to team initiatives and continuously strives to improve the effectiveness of the teams and/or specialty clinics.
Duties include but may not be limited to the following:
Responsible for initiating and carrying out a variety of administrative, laboratory and echocardiogram
duties in support of patient examinations in the Primary Care Clinic and CBOCs.
Performs standard diagnostic tests or procedures such as electrocardiograms, attaching electrodes to chest area of patient for testing results transmission, venipuncture for collection of blood specimen, according to written protocol or as directed by the physician or other professional staff.
Completes necessary disposition entries into VISTA daily for scheduled outpatient visits under PCE to ensure proper workload credit and statistical information is maintained for the Medical Center.
Assists patients and families in contacting Chaplain Service and Voluntary Service as needed or requested. Contacts Social Worker on behalf of patient's personal needs as needed or requested and the travel office to arrange necessary transportation following established guidelines.
Responsible for work area fire drill and emergency plans to include location of all emergency equipment. Initiates appropriate procedures in emergency situations. Initiates code situations. Directs responding personnel.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement08/19/2024, .
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4 grade level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Providing administrative, venipuncture and echocardiograms in coordination of patient examinations and advise the staff on administrative order request for venipuncture;
Performing standard diagnostic tests and/or procedures such as electrocardiograms, and
Ordering diagnostic tests, labs, requesting medical records from other facilities, etc.
OR,
Education: Successful completion of two (2) years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects directly related to this position. A bachelor's degree or four (4) years of education above the high school level with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

OR,
Combination: An equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as books, papers. No special physical is required to perform this work.
