The Pacific West Region is recruiting for winter seasonal Custodial Worker (MVO), WG-3566-4 positions intended to assist permanent staff with custodial field work. The typical season for this position is October through April but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: October 2024.

Duties

Major Duties include: Performs a full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area following general instructions on the work to be done. Performs custodial/janitorial duties cleaning, sanitizing, emptying trash, and restocking public restrooms; cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and emptying trash. Washes walls using powered wall washing machines and/or by hand. Vacuums/cleans rugs, carpets, etc. using heavy vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments. Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment. Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc. Keep shop areas clean and in order. Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes various liquid and solid wastes, spills, etc. On a regular and recurring basis operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, flatbed trucks, 5-yard dump trucks, etc.) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sited located on the park. Physical Demands: The work performed requires moderately heavy physical effort and involves lifting and moving objects over 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Custodial workers must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Grade 2 custodial workers must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently, they must lift and move objects weighing about 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. The incumbent is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds. Grade 2 Custodial Workers usually work indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation.
