This position serves as the Supervisory Dentist for the Clinton Indian Health Center. The incumbent will provide continuous dental services to patients ranging from routine to complex and emergency dental procedures. In addition, will be responsible for day to day operations dental clinic, provide employee counseling, guidance, and dental program management duties.
Duties
Serve as expert dental health advisor to staff in dental division, provide technical training, guidance, counseling, and development services to subordinate staff.
Perform patient medical record review for evidence of disease or abnormalities that could impact dental treatment responsibility.
Independently perform patient oral examinations, diagnoses pathological or irregular conditions, development treatment plans, order and interpret dental radiographs, perform restorations, single to multiple extractions, continuous dental care.
Implement dental program services, acquire positive public relations, manage dental care funds through obligation, justification, authorization, and provide advisor services to Service Unit Director.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association(external link) (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation(external link) (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations(external link) (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations(external link) (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
MEDICAL REQUIREMENT: Distinguish shades of color.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Additional Qualification Requirement for Dental Officer, GS-680-13.
GS-13: One (1) year specialized experience to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: removing localized foreign bodies from the gingival tissues and alveolar sockets, performing complicated root canal therapy, muco-gingival surgery, routine and advanced pedodontic procedure, prosthetic treatment involving complicated conditions, and single and complicated multiple extractions of teeth, as well as removing unerupted and impacted teeth and residual root tips. Experience should also include providing administration over a dental program, which includes managing the budget and staff.
AND
Acompleted 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training.
Experience
In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements applicants must have one or more full years of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level; performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments.
Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening extracting and
repairing teeth: treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

- Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

- Dental Public Health
For the above specialty areas experience education board certification and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist. Agencies should review the applicant's experience to determines the types and difficulty of the cases dealt with. the level of knowledge and understanding of the specialization regularly required the extent of diagnostic skills and treatment planning ability involved. and the pertinent graduate study acquired.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
