This position is located at the Interior Design Section, Construction Section, Facility Management Service at VACHS San Juan, Puerto Rico. This position will include the responsibilities of layout, production and installation of signage for the VA Medical Center of San Juan, P.R.

Duties

Included, but are not limited to: Include full range of signage interior and exterior, banners, directional, room function, graphic symbols, etc. on signs. Determine what project will be done and the method used to complete the project. Cut plastic, vinyl and other materials. Use several types of sign-making machines and tools, as well as free-hand lettering. Produce signage for entire medical center buildings and grounds. Plan and coordinate production and installation of all types of signs. Contact staff, supply vendor, or representatives to clarify or exchange information regarding status of projects. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/13/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. This position has a language proficiency requirement: 1. Must be proficient in spoken and written English. 2. Must be proficient in spoken Spanish. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The sign painter is required to stand, stoop, cling and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work requires continual movement of hand and arm, reaching and bending. The painter frequently lifts, carries and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, some projects may require heavier effort in doing such tasks as erecting signs or displays, kneeling to letter equipment or climbing ladders. At such times, the selectee may handle up to 40 pounds. Most work is performed inside in adequately lighter and heated areas, although some is performed outdoors in a variety of weather. Some outdoor work may require work near moving vehicles and exposure to the possibility of falls. The selectee is subject to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and irritation of eyes and skin from exposure to fumes, solvents or paints. Appropriate personal protective equipment is furnished to alleviate these hazards.
