Duties
You will provide legal advice, support and assistance to the Commander, Deputy Commanders, Division and Staff Office Chiefs.
Prepare memorandum, reports, legal documents and advisory opinions on a wide variety of legal problems of varying degree of complexity, importance and impact.
This work may include any or all areas of legal practice of the Office of Counsel, including but not limited to:
Government contracts; environmental law; admiralty law; personnel matters; regulatory and regulatory enforcement;
claims against the Government under both the Federal Tort Claims Act and other remedies; Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act ; ethics;
fiscal law; Architect-Engineer liability issues; issues arising under the curation program and NAGPRA; civil works and authority issues;
local cooperation and local cost sharing issues; real estate law; and emergency support functions under the Stafford Act.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be a current member in good standing of a Bar of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Basic Requirement for General Attorney:
Degree: Completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: Two or more years of professional legal experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Creditable experience will include analyzing facts, ascertaining laws, preparing legal opinions based on the facts and the law; advising contracting officers and Project Managers on all aspects of delivering the project/program in two or more of the following legal disciplines: government contract law and litigation; environmental law and hazardous waste law; admiralty law; personnel matters; regulatory and regulatory enforcement; claims against the Government under both the Federal Tort Claims Act and other remedies; Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act matters; government ethics; federal fiscal law; Architect-Engineer liability issues; civil works authorities and agreements; local cooperation and local cost sharing issues; real estate law; and emergency support functions under the Stafford Act.

Education
