This position will serve as a Police Officer - Training Instructor at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, GA. The Police Officer - Training Instructor will perform a full range of police duties by following and executing rules, regulations, or procedures covering law and rules enforcement, physical and personal security operations, patrol duties, control desk duty, coordination with local courts, and/or crime prevention activities for the local jurisdiction.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Serve and protect Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affiliates, visitors and others who frequent VA facilities;
Ensures a safe and secure environment;
Takes charge of significant and catastrophic events;
Providing training and education to Veterans Health Administration Police Officers.
Conducts classroom lectures, presentations and skills demonstrations;
Develops, presents, delivers, and coordinates for training programs;
Prepares lesson plans and training material for class participants;
Modifies training curriculum as needed;
Establishes and maintains statistical database of training requirements, schedules, rosters, training records and training results;
Conducts research to assess training needs and programs;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Work Schedule: Compressed/Flexible Schedule. Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours if determined by the needs of the service. Furthermore, candidates must be willing to be placed, detailed, or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/14/2024.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: developing, presenting, delivering, or coordinating courses for training programs; preparing material related to the use of the VA police computer package; writing reports; documenting incidents; use of the Expandable Straight Baton; oleoresin capsicum spray recertification; defense tactics; handcuffing; the clearing of buildings; and AED and CPR; Preparing training schedules, coordinating equipment, room availability, and dates and times for on-site training and off-campus drills; ensures the availability of material and handouts for class participants; changes training curriculum to fit the criteria focused on the jurisdiction, level of experience and complications observed; Oversees instructors' firearms, ground defense, active threat and development of officers and designates tasks necessary for new Police Officers to gain experience to do work.
