Duties

Perform renovation, demilitarization, loading, modification and normal maintenance of high explosives and ammunition. Perform disassembly and breakdown of ammunition items by operating a variety of machines, equipment and fixtures, such as pull-apart or breakdown machines, defusing, deboostering, decrimping and debanding machines. Perform manual assembly operations such as assembling a fuse, inserting booster charges and detonators, screwing or bolting down components to achieve mechanical strength. Know the cycle of operation of multiple work processes, machines and equipment involving several controls performing more than one operation.

About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions.This position serves as an Explosive Operator located at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC. This position produces and renovates quality conventional missile ammunition and ammunition-related components, perform engineering and product assurance in support of production, and receive, store, ship, demilitarize and dispose of conventional and missile ammunition and related items. Some assignments require lifts above 40 pounds at a production pace. All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. May pull or push hand trucks weighing several hundred pounds. The work requires sitting, walking, bending, reaching, crouching and long periods of standing. Endurance and eye-hand coordination are required to work at a set pace and rhythm for long periods. Working Conditions: This position performs work indoors or outdoors in covered areas or passageways, which provide some protection. Work areas are usually well lighted and ventilated. Some operations cause uncomfortable steam and heat in the work area. You are required to stand on floors made of concrete, lead, or conductive composition and required to wear protective clothing such as specially treated coveralls, respirators, and goggles on many assignments. You are frequently exposed to moisture and wet floors as a result of cleanup operations in powder areas. You are exposed to the possibility of explosion and flash fires and there is a chance of injuries ranging from loss of life or limbs to burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, and nausea.
