About the Position: This position is with Fort Carson Department of Public Health, Occupational Health Clinic Dugway. The position is located at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah. This position is an upgrade of an encumbered position.

Duties

Responds on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses operating an emergency vehicle (ambulance), and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening. Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of their condition and searches for medical alert symbols. Determines, with due regard to the patient's condition, if and how they can be moved (ground vs. air) and to which medical facility they should be transported, knowing that the closest MTF is 51 miles away by road. Performs procedures such as Airway Obstruction and Respiratory Arrest, Cardiac Arrest, Bleeding and Shock, etc., as required, and in strict compliance with National, State and Local standing orders and protocols. Recognizes, stabilizes and treats a wide variety of medical emergencies, e.g., poison ingestion or inhalation, bites/stings, pediatric patients, heart attacks, strokes, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Childcare National Agency Check w/ Inquiries (CNACI) background investigation and has periodic re-verification requirements.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Possess and maintain current certification for Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for Health care Providers.
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position requires the selectee to pass a pre-employment physical. Position requires lifting of up to 125 lbs.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted issued Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-(NREMT).
  • This position requires that you possess and maintain OR obtain and maintain within 1 year of entrance on duty the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT-B) certification.
  • If you do not possess a NREMT-B then you must have a valid State level EMT-B certification until a NREMT-B certification is obtained.
  • btain and maintain NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 level training within six months of hire.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and/or 12-hour shifts.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid state driver's license. Incumbent will be required to pass an Army approved defensive driving certification course.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes independent preliminary assessment of patient's condition; performing procedures as required for conditions such as cardiac/respiratory arrest, bleeding and shock, fractures; and operation of emergency vehicle to transport patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, which supports the knowledge, skills and ability to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Decision MakingEmergency Medical CareOral CommunicationVehicle OperationWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
