The incumbent serves as Senior Evaluation Specialist on the Strategic Planning and Performance Staff (SPPS), which, among other responsibilities, manages the Department's implementation of Title I of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act (Evidence Act). On behalf of the Evaluation Officer, the team oversees the development and implementation of the DOJ Learning Agenda, develops Annual Evaluation Plans, and supports evaluation and evidence-building activities across the Department.

The duties and responsibilities of a Senior Evaluation Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Work with stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities for new rigorous evaluations to support program and policy decisions. Work with stakeholders to build organizational capacity for evaluation and evidence building. Design and support evaluations to measure the impact of programs and policies. Design and support evaluations to assess the implementation of programs and policies. Identify statistical methods for identifying patterns in complex data. Conduct summaries, syntheses, or critical reviews of social science research.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Senior Evaluation Specialist, (GS-0101-13/14), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Degree: Behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Analyzing qualitative or quantitative methods to improve program operations; AND Identifying administrative issues to make recommendations for improvement to management. Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service, which includes: Developing policies that guide the development, integration, or implementation of a department's evaluation program; Developing plans, goals, or objectives for implementing an administrative program; AND Developing methods to improve the effectiveness of program evaluation. Education must be reviewed and certified by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be creditable toward your qualifications. Therefore, you should provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
