You will serve as an Office Automation Assistant in the Naval Air Station Oceana, Air Detachment Norfolk of NAVSTA, Norfolk VA.

Duties

You will operate standard office equipment (e.g., telephone, scanner, fax, photocopier, electric typewriter) to complete routine clerical assignments. You will prepare draft letters and other documents ensuring proper format, grammar, and spelling. You will review and edit written documents for proper format, English grammar, capitalization, punctuation, spelling, proper use of terminology or symbols, appropriate signature, and attachments.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Interpreting officer fitness reports and enlisted evaluations; 2) Operating and electronic typewriter, computer, and other related equipment; 3) Transmitting, receiving and acknowledging electronic mail; 4) Monitoring database software functional capabilities of different software types on policies and directives; 5) Setting up controls and suspense dates and performing other related clerical support functions. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination. Education

Have successfully completed four years of education above high school level OR

Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
