The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Tractor Operator. The Tractor Operator will function under the Facilities Mangement Service.

Duties

The duties of the position may include but, are not limited to Mowing lawns, wooded areas and golf course; pruning and trimming of trees and bushes. The incumbent is responsible for performing grounds maintenance activities which require the use, on a regular and recurring basis, of power equipment, such as tractors. The incumbent is responsible for operating 45-horsepower tractors for the purpose of pulling gang mowers, movable dozer blades, powered lawn sweepers, plows, harrows, trailers, snow blowers, etc. Responsible for operating a front end loader used to move sand, dirt, salt, and supplies from various areas; both in building and outside areas. The incumbent will also be responsible for operating trucks (1 ½ to 5 tons) to transport materials as necessary. The incumbent may be required to perform the full range of gardening duties. May be required to install and remove snow fence, sharpen and repair equipment used within the section, and, on a relief basis, perform the duties of the heavy equipment operator. Is responsible for maintenance of signs at the Medical Center. Assists in moving office furniture, patient furniture, and equipment. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent may be required to work in inclement weather, such as snow, rain, sleet, and indoors under extreme or hazardous conditions. Position requires frequent arm and leg movement, and lifting bags of fertilizer and seed, etc., weighing up to 100 pounds.
