The Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is recruiting for a Materials Handler Supervisor position. This position will function within Supply Chain Management. The primary role of the Materials Handler Supervisor is to determine the work flow for timely performance of assignments based on emergencies, known needs, and delivery requirements
Duties
The Materials Handler Supervisor duties include, but are not limited to:
Determines the work flow for timely performance of assignments based on emergencies, needs and delivery requirements.
Develops plans for storage and arrangement of stock in accordance with agency regulations.
Uses own initiative to consolidate materials, provide maximum space utilization and protection of material.
Spot checks work in progress to ensure chain of supervisions intent is being met.
Ensures the warehouse has needed supplies, equipment and tools to operate on a daily basis.
Manages receipt and delivery of supplies, expendable and non-expendable equipment.
Maintains the flow of the warehouse by moving, delivering, shelving, storing and inventorying materials and equipment.
Provides instruction on handling, delivering and warehousing materials including hazardous, flammable and temperature sensitive products.
Interprets a variety of standard operation procedures (SOPs), directives, and policies.
Familiar with automated purchasing and inventory systems.
Is the subject matter expert on relevant regulatory requirements for all aspects of warehouse management.
Interprets and provides guidance on warehousing plans to include general procedures, organizing space plans, inventory location plans and equipment staging areas.
Understands how to load supply carts, vehicles or pallets to ensure safety and most efficient process.
Reads, writes, and maintains files of various government and commercial documents to include turn in requests, discrepancy reports shipping/receiving documents, etc.
Groups supplies in a logical manner while ensuring maximum efficiency of space.
Directs the work of subordinates to ensures all items are packaged or palletized correctly to prevent damage.
Adheres to all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) operating and safety standards.
Utilizes proper safety techniques when handling a variety of material and equipment.

Takes all precautionary measures in an attempt to prevent serious accidents.
Handles hazardous and sensitive materials according to established procedures.
Work Schedule: 0630-1500. Monday - Friday

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work involves considerable walking, pushing and pulling a variety of carts and materials handling equipment; off loading and loading trucks, lifting products on and off shelves, handling boxes frequently weighing over 40 pounds; handles equipment, furniture and materials of an awkward and heavier nature in excess of 100 pounds (typically using specialized equipment and/or assistance of co-workers). Greater physical effort may be required on projects involving the movement of large quantities of products over an extended period including turn-ins, large shipments and deliveries. While operating vehicles, may be required to exert a greater level of physical exertion while backing and turning trucks, operating forklifts, or hand trucks on uneven terrain and uncertain conditions.
Working Conditions: Requires working in storage buildings, pods, trailers, vehicles and warehouses that may be hot, cold, drafty and poor lighting; work outdoors, on docks, making deliveries in all types of weather conditions during all seasons; hazardous materials may be encountered in daily work activities; will be subject to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury from the use of equipment; may be subject to conditions that could result in serious accidents; personal protective equipment may be required.
