About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Regional Planning and Environmental Center, with Ft. Worth District. RPEC has four primary duty stations: Fort Worth, TX; Galveston, TX; Little Rock, AR; and Tulsa, OK. However, an alternate duty location within the Continental U.S. (CONUS) may be negotiated for applicants who select the "Location Negotiable After Selection" option at time of application.

Duties

Provide technical leadership in the development and application of original and innovative approaches to the improvement of geophysical survey and their resolution of unique one of-a-kind geophysical problems. Review geophysical work plans for possible improvements, particularly in the areas of cost savings, effectiveness and safety, and project quality. Responsible for defining, evaluating and making recommendations where Geophysical procedures are utilized including Geographic Information System (GIS) Knowledge Bases (KBs), for the MMRP and other major programs. Evaluate and develop data enhancement tools and techniques for the Geophysical GIS KB Plan, execute and interpret shallow geophysical surveys as a basis for design and evaluation for the region's MMR Program. Apply state-of-the-art principles of geophysics in addressing design and engineering, construction, and operational problems of concern to the customer.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires temporary duty (TDY) travel up to 50% of the time.
  • This position requires submission of Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, upon entering the position and annually thereafter.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Basic Requirement for Geophysics Series 1313 (Documents must be uploaded within application): Degree: that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.). or Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. Reviewing and interpreting aerial imagery and other remote sensing data for the purpose of evaluating program requirements.; 2. Utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to effectively plan and perform site investigations and evaluations.; AND 3. Analyzing geophysical features of investigation, design and construction (removal action) documents and this could include scopes of work, work plans, investigation reports, feasibility studies, Records of Decision, After Action Reports, technical analysis, design memoranda, plans, specifications, drawings, and construction (remediation) modifications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: GeophysicsOral CommunicationPlanning and EvaluatingTechnical Credibility Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
