This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Civilian Positions of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Little Goose Dam, Starbuck, WA. The Dam is situated on the Snake River, 65-river miles downstream from Clarkston, WA and 70-river miles upstream from the Tri-Cities, WA. Little Goose Dam is near Starbuck, WA and close to Dayton, WA.

Duties

Serves as assistant to the Little Goose Project fishery biologist in whose absence, the assistant assumes the responsibilities of the Project biologist. In the absence of Project biologist, supervises and directs the work of maintenance and technical employees responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Little Goose juvenile fish passage facilities. Coordinates with District Corps personnel, along with contacts in other Federal, State, and tribal organizations engaged in fishery management programs which directly or indirectly relate to Little Goose Project programs. Participates in supervision and direction of technical employees in data collection, analysis, and evaluation.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Fish Biologist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields, or excess course work (beyond the required 6 semester hours) in aquatic subjects. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying fish management methodologies and techniques to assist in the development, planning, and conduct of fish management programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Biological Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
