You will serve as a Pipefitter in the Production Division, Public Works Department of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE located in Gulfport, MS.

Duties

You will assist with installing, modifying and repairs on new and existing high pressure piping systems such as steam heating, steam generation and condensate systems. You will assist with laying out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion and operation of various piping systems and equipment. You will assist with disassembly, repair, and rebuild component parts of equipment such as flash and expansion tanks, circulating pumps, heat exchangers and radiators. You will accomplish work from written instructions, work orders, sketches, diagrams, plans and blueprints. You will locate leaks, stoppages and various sources of troubles in a swift manner. You will use measuring tapes, squares, levels and other tools to plan, layout, measure, cut, construct and install materials according to dimensional requirements and specifications. You will utilize proper methods for handling hazardous substances such as asbestos and lead.

  • Position requires Certification in Back-Flow Prevention Assembly Testing (BPAT) recognized by the Mississippi State Department of Health within 12 months of hire.
  • Occasional travel away from the normal duty station is required. Not to exceed 5%
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Determining joint and valve sizes needed to support pressures of the system; 2) Aligning pipes, valves, fitting, and joints for an accurate match; 3) Reading and interpreting plans, blueprints, or sketches to install, modify, or repair new or existing piping systems; 4) operating relief valves, check valves, pressure regulators, expansion joints, and other pressure-supporting and controlling devices. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
