Duties

The selectee will serve as a Network Intrusion Forensic Analyst in the Office of Investigations. Typical work assignments include: Defining, interpreting, and implementing policy as it relates to investigative methods, evidence recovery, and forensics analysis. Serving as a technical expert and testifying as a witness (as required) at trials in support of evidentiary findings including, but not limited to responding to questions from counsel, articulating findings, methods and procedures; and working under the legal authority of court orders, search warrants and other legal processes. Inventorying, examining and performing analyses of seized computer related evidence such as magnetic media storage devices (floppy disks, hard disks, optical disks, memory cards, USB devices, etc.) and other digital, electronic and mobile devices. Delivering training to include continuous improvement of the Network Intrusion Responders Program (NITRO) training strategies and updates to training material for specific NITRO courses or training modules, and explaining complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders. Serving as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) managing awarded contracts and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on forensics contract requirements.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $104,374.00) if you possess one one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Utilizing knowledge of computer operating systems, hardware, software, and/or forensic tools to contribute to network intrusion and/or digital forensic analysis investigations; Performing computer forensics activities (i.e., evidence seizure, data recovery, forensic analysis, etc.) to support law enforcement investigations; and Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to present investigative findings, reports, and/or testimony. The work is primarily performed in an office setting but the employee may be requested to assist in the seizure, transportation, inventory, and processing of electronic evidence. Additionally, when providing classroom instruction and supporting the NITRO program, the employee should anticipate being on their feet and/or walking for an extended period of time. The incumbent will be required to travel as necessary to support both investigations and training. The work performed may be time-sensitive and may require the incumbent to (occasionally) work for extended hours with relatively short notice. The position is of a sensitive nature and the incumbent may be exposed to highly confidential and/or law enforcement sensitive information. Overtime work may be required. Incumbent may be required to travel both domestically and abroad. Incumbent may be required to travel on temporary duty assignments. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed in the following areas: Computer Forensics and NITRO training within the first year of employment; and Contracting Officer Representative (COR) training.
