The Pacific West Region is recruiting for summer seasonal Motor Vehicle Operator, WG-5703-7 positions intended to assist permanent staff with motor vehicle operating duties.

Duties
North Cascades National Park, Stehekin, Washington-- winter season is mid-November to mid-May; salary information.
Stehekin, Washington is a remote mountain community located at 1100' in north-central Washington, at the north end of 50-mile long Lake Chelan. Access is by daily passenger ferry, private aircraft (no scheduled service, floatplanes only in winter), or hiking (summer only, shortest route is 17 miles). Ferries to Stehekin from Chelan range from $50 - $86 per round trip. No roads lead into Stehekin, but an interior road allows barged-in vehicles and bicycles. A concession operation consists of a lodge, cabins, convenience store, and restaurant. A post office, market garden, dude ranch, bakery, and various tourist oriented businesses such as bicycle rental can be found in the town of Stehekin. Most businesses shut down for the winter. Shopping, doctors, hospital and other services are available in Chelan at the south end of Lake Chelan. Larger shopping centers and hospitals are available in Wenatchee, WA, 43 miles from the ferry landing. Groceries and other supplies are ordered by email and shipped on the ferry at the employee's expense. Emergency medical transport is by boat or helicopter and weather dependent. Recreation consists of hiking/climbing, fishing, biking, boating, skiing, and craft/hobby activities. No television, cell service, or landline phone is available, however satellite internet is available in employee housing. Summers are warm and dry, and winters average 120 inches of snow. Driving time to Seattle or Spokane is four hours from the other end of the lake in Chelan.
Point Reyes National Seashore, Point Reyes Station, California--winter season is October to April, salary information; other duties apply--may perform semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance, repair, and janitorial work and manual labor tasks.

Major Duties:
Operating platform trucks, van trucks, dump trucks, specialty pumping equipment and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight or more than 26,000 pound and up to 32,000 pounds.
Removes snow from parking areas and roads using loader, grader, and rotary plow.
Handles garbage and operates garbage compacting equipment.
Transports passengers, supplies, materials or equipment and tools.
Tows various trailers and equipment.
Performs general maintenance on motor vehicles.
Performs a variety of manual labor tasks associated with roads operations such as handling asphalt by shovel and rake and cleaning ditch lines and culverts, shoveling snow, roadside brushing, garbage collection, striping and traffic flagging.
May perform semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance, repair, and janitorial work in and on various unit buildings. Typical duties include installing faucet washers and gaskets, replacing faucets, other minor plumbing repairs, touch-up painting, minor carpentry repairs, and janitorial work in public and administrative buildings.
Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance of equipment.
Does manual labor tasks, such as digging, pulling, cleaning drainage ditches, lifting and emptying trash containers, cleaning rest rooms, picking up litter, cleaning picnic grills, etc.
Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort is needed by this position in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavy loads or a large number of people. Required to frequently lift items weighing over 50 pounds. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs, such as installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Is part of the snowplow crew, and thus is required to travel to work in unplowed roads.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Have the ability to do the work of and Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT)
Work history demonstrates experience operating one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, specialty pumping equipment, and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds.
Vehicles are driven on the basis of either specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules over public roads (or the equivalent) at highway speeds to transport passengers, supplies, materials, or equipment and tools, or to tow equipment throughout rural or urban areas.
Experience performing general maintenance on motor vehicles and performing manual labor tasks such as digging, pulling and cleaning drainage ditches, works roads and trails in connection with raking and graveling.
Must currently possess a valid Class B or higher Commercial Drivers License (Screen out), by the closing date of this announcement.
