This position is located in the Department of Defense, Office of the Inspector General (DoD OIG), Mission Support Team (MST), Logistics Management Office (LMO). The incumbent serves as a Deployment Specialist providing complete deployment support services for DoD OIG civilian and military staff in Southwest Asia (SWA) field offices and other overseas areas.

Duties

Administer processes required for deployment of civilian, military, and contract staff. Analyze and apply relevant law, regulation and policy in areas including, medical, dental, immunization and other health related requirements; security and access; personnel processes; safety; and pre-deployment briefings and training. Works with deployed staff, and with internal DoD OIG offices and with staff of external agencies and departments to track, control and coordinate deployment actions, advise deploying staff and ensure consistency with law, regulation, and policy. Works with deploying personnel to ensure they obtain an official passport and any required visas; coordinates directly with the DoD Passport Office to ensure passports and visas are obtained prior to the employee’s departure. Coordinates with DoD and DoS on the issuance of passports (official, diplomatic and tourist) and with embassies on the issuance of visas in support of official business travel. Represents DoD OIG with officials of other parts of DoD, other federal or civilian agencies, or representatives of other governments.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (see http://www.sss.gov).
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
  • Current DoD civilian employees are not required to submit to drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
  • The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

Time in Grade: For entry at the GS-13 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-12 or equivalent or higher grade, in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as regularly working with deploying personnel to ensure they obtain an official passport and any required visas, preparing requests for official orders for temporary duty, permanent change in station, and temporary change of duty stations. Maintaining information on the status of deployment actions, on deployed personnel, schedules, and other data necessary to manage deployed personnel; preparing automated and manual reports, and providing regular and ad-hoc briefings as necessary. You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/group-stds/gs-prof.asp. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social) is qualifying. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience. Qualification and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
