Major Duties:
Work closely with all members of the health care team, receiving program direction and guidance from the team's leadership
Provide administrative and team support in a wide variety of basic administrative functions within a Patient Aligned Care Team, Specialty Clinic, or Call Center.
The incumbent is considered the team's authority on a variety of clinic processes, regulations, policies, and procedures regarding eligibility and benefits, clinic support, statistical and data collection, medical record managements and customer service.
Incumbent must interpret and implement regulations accurately to reflect current operating procedures.
The role is complex and requires flexibility and independent decision making.
Meets the needs of customers while supporting the medical center and service missions.
Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all medical center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
This position requires the incumbent to possess or develop an understanding of the needs of patients and families/caregiver.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j.
Experience and Education.
(1) Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR,
(2) Education. One year above high school; OR,
(3) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment the following experience criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates: Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the [GS-5] grade level.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-6 step 1 to GS-6 step 10.
