The National Intelligence University (NIU) is the Intelligence Community's sole accredited, federal degree-granting institution. It serves as the intellectual hub for the intelligence profession, preparing today's leaders for tomorrow's challenges.

Duties

Under the direction of the Provost, acting as the first point of contact, the duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Provost include but not limited to: Management and Leadership - Assists the Provost in the oversight of daily operations in the Division of Academic Affairs. Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates activities concerning administrative issues. Provide supervision to the Directors of Institutional Effectiveness, Extended Studies and International Programs, and Center of Teaching and Learning. Oversee professional development opportunities for faculty and staff o Manages academic governance boards, sets agendas, and moderates meetings. Provide support for annual faculty and staff evaluation processes, and academic rank promotion and faculty/staff awards. Serve on various committees related to curriculum development, academic catalog, shared governance, and faculty recruitments. Accreditation and Assessment - Serves as the accreditation liaison for the university. In consultation with the Provost, direct all accreditations activities of NIU and serves as liaison officer to military and civilian accrediting bodies. Fosters a culture of assessment, continuous improvement, and curricular innovation across the university. Initiates and guides the development of academic policies that positively and significantly affect teaching, learning, and student success. Collaborates with academic units on processes and assessment data to ensure alignment with disciplinary and community/industry needs and emerging trends. Actively supports faculty in course and program-level assessment, data collection, curriculum review, and reporting. Budget and Financial Management - Ensure transparent and equitable use of resources in the areas of travel, professional development, workload, and other operating expenditures. Collaborates with deans on faculty and staff recruitment. Serve on various committees within academic affairs and/or at the institutional level. Represent the Office of the Provost on the university's budget committee.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen residing in the United States
  • Appointment is subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on an SBI with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI)
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • A two-year trial period is required for all new permanent appointments to the ODNI.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements: PhD or equivalent from an accredited college/university. Superior higher education experience as an administrative leader in a university with progressively responsible roles (e.g., department chair, director, associate dean, dean or associate provost). A substantial record of excellence in teaching at an accredited college/university. Credentials and professional activity that qualifies candidate for the rank of Associate Professor or above. Superior experience leading academic initiatives such assessment, program development, and strategic planning. Superior communication skills, including the superior ability to clearly convey complex information both in writing and orally. Expert ability to collaborate effectively with senior administrators, colleagues, students, and community partners. Superior commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in education and leadership.
