As a Regional Attorney at the SL-0905-00, you will be part of Office of General Counsel, Dallas District Legal Unit. The Regional Attorney is appointed to serve as counsel and legal officer to the General Counsel on all matters pertaining to the administration and enforcement of laws related to EEOC's mission and relevant federal regulations, policies, and EEOC's programs, operations and initiatives.

Duties

The incumbent has overall responsibility to recommend and conduct all litigation with respect to the matters investigated by the district’s enforcement units where conciliation has failed. Recommends, as appropriate, that the General Counsel and/or the Commission approve high profile litigation of matters not within the Regional Attorney’s delegated authority. Responsible for the initiation of actions in United States District Courts to enforce compliance with administrative subpoenas; to seek temporary relief pursuant to the provisions of Section 706(f)(2) of Title VII. Develops large, complex, high profile litigation cases involving multiple offices, sometimes across district lines. Resolution of such litigation will likely have impact on a national basis. Oversees the development of difficult legal theories and the preparation of complex legal documents in connection with formal actions in cases. Makes final decision, together with the General Counsel as appropriate, regarding the resolution of Commission cases under the incumbent’s supervision.

  • Must have an Active BAR Membership in Good Standing. If selected, must maintain active bar membership in good standing while employed as an attorney with EEOC

Qualifications

This is a Senior Level (SL) position and applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Mandatory Technical Qualifications below: These qualifications would typically be acquired through education, experience, and training which reflect progressive development and achievement in managing a comprehensive business program in a complex organization. An individual's total experience and education must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Applicants must meet all of the qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Basic Requirement: You must have earned a professional law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member of the BAR, and have professional legal experience. Technical Qualifications (TQ): In addition, all applicants must submit a written narrative response to the following TQ(s). Please give examples and explain how often you used your skills, the complexity of the knowledge possessed, the level of people you interacted with, the sensitivity of the issues you handled managing a large public or private sector organization that administers complex, rules-based benefits or services, etc. 1. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Title VII, the ADEA, the Equal Pay Act, the ADA, GINA, EEOC Policies and Regulations, Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, and other Federal laws governing fair employment practices. 2. Demonstrated extensive litigation experience to effectively plan, direct, and coordinate litigation activities. 3. Demonstrated ability providing effective leadership and supervision to plan, direct, and coordinate large caseloads. NOTE: Responses to TQs must not exceed 2 pages per TQ, for a total of 6 pages. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious, spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
