Position is in the Office of Lock Operations & Marine Services, Marine Services Division. The employee serves as the Deputy Vessel Master of the Marine Services Division with responsibility for the safe operation and maintenance of Corporation vessels; commissioning, decommissioning, and maintenance of navigation aids; hydrographic surveying and channel maintenance; and emergency response.

Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.
SELECTIVE FACTORS:
Applicants must have at minimum, a current and a valid USCG Merchant Marine Credential (USCG MMC), endorsed as Mate of Steam or Motor Vessels of less than1600 gross registered tons (GRT) upon the Great Lakes and Inland waters and as Mate of Towing Vessels upon the Great Lakes and Inland waters along with Unlimited Radar Observer.
NOTE: If the person selected has the minimum USCG MMC Endorsements as stated above, it is a requirement of the position that the person must have obtained within 12 calendar month from the date of hire / formally appointed to the position at minimum a current and valid USCG Merchant Marine Credential (USCG MMC), endorsed as Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of less than 1600 gross registered tons (GRT) upon the Great Lakes and Inland waters and as Master of Towing Vessels upon the Great Lakes and Inland waters. Failure to attain the above endorsement in the allocated time frame will result in dismissal.
To qualify for the Grade 13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include:
Experience safely operating and maintaining vessels and tugboats including towing and pushing vessels and barges.
Experience operating Aximuthing Stern Drive (ASD/Z-drive) vessels.
