VA San Diego is hiring a Program Support Assistant to work as a Credentialing Specialist in the Credentialing and Privileging Office. The functions of the Credentialing and Privileging Office are critical to accreditation, and for assuring safe patient care provided by the VA Medical Center.
Duties
As a Program Support Assistant for the Credentialing and Privileging (C&P) Office you will be responsible for providing administrative and technical direction and support to the credentialing operations of the VA Medical Center. This position us under the Chief of Staff office and is aligned to, and supervised by, the Credentialing and Privileging Manager. You will be responsible for all credentialing requirements as outlined in policy, and for internal monitoring for compliance and timely update of expiration of time-limited credentials. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Collecting relevant data to ensure that qualified health care professionals are providing appropriate care in appropriate settings.
Auditing of all required credentials for authenticity and veracity in accordance with The Joint Commission Standards and VA policies and procedures.
Assisting the C&P Manager in drafting local credentialing procedures.
Receiving and reviewing correspondence and communications for the credentials function and determining which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature.
Reviewing reports detecting problem areas requiring further investigation, and upon identification of a problem, researching reference materials, regulations, and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct the problem.
Upon receipt of individual credentials files for review, ensuring primary source verification.
Assuring application packages and other documents meet technical requirements per specialty of provider and assures application folder and database account meet technical requirements.
Providing oversight to the credentialing application process.
Determining processes for coordination of incoming data and documents from a variety of sources. Documents include, but are not limited to: VA applications for employment, primary source verifications of education and training, peer recommendations, licensure, certifications, NPDB, and personal history.
Managing the work involving the tracking of data and documents in support of the credentialing operation.
Conducting final appointment into the VetPro database after thoroughly researching, analyzing and validating all data, information, documents and signature authorities.
Developing and providing routine and special reports, and composing correspondence requiring Clinical Service Chiefs and Medical Center Director signatures for credentialing actions.
Managing, administering and assuring accuracy, security and maintenance of operations of database systems.
Maintaining purchase care records, reconciling monthly charge statements, verifying legitimacy of requests, and ensuring compliance with all purchase card requirements.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/12/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience in applying rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements; skill in analyzing database systems and processes to achieve data integrity; experience in utilizing various databases and electronic systems; experience communicating and working with staff at various managerial levels; administrative experience within healthcare.
