This position is in the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) and will operate within the Service located at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center (VAMC) with several Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). This position reports directly to the Supervisory Transportation Assistant at the VA Medical Center.
Duties
The Cincinnati VA Medical Center (CVAMC) is a two-division campus located in Cincinnati, OH and Fort Thomas, KY serving 15 counties in Southwest OH, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana with 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Bellevue, KY; Florence, KY; Lawrenceburg, IN; Hamilton, OH; Clermont County, OH, and Georgetown, OH. The CVAMC also supports two off main campus locations in the Cincinnati area via an Eye Center and Mental Health Outreach Community Division.
The transportation assistant works with the VTS Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program. The three major areas of responsibility are: (1) Scheduling, Data Collection, & Tracking Support; (2) Consult Management responsibilities; (3) Program Support responsibilities. The employee must have knowledge of clinical services, related software and programs as they relate to clinical computing and office automation.
The position of Transportation Assistant GS-2102-6 is the full performance level.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1) Scheduling, Data Collection & Tracking Support:
Performs work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling. Daily responsibilities include collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS).
Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports.
Evaluate documents, e.g., paper claims, receipts, clinical support documents and other data collection forms.
Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate.
Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system.
Interacts with various other transportation services such as Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) etc., and other transportation providers.
2) Performance Measures Support:
Coordinates service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas.
Utilizes the Veterans Health Information System & Technological Architecture (VISTA), Computerized Patient Record Systems (CPRS) or SharePoint Consult/Request Tracking System in processing internal consultations.
3) Coordination, Program Planning and Advisory Services:
Plans for, organizes, administers, and directs how the work will be accomplished for the VTS program.
Plans and directs programs that provide support services functions and require the application of specialized knowledge and skills.
Planning responsibilities require consideration of support services e.g., systems management, operations, workload forecasting, review, and reporting of data/statistical results of program/project studies, vehicle maintenance and repair, etc.
Validate program workload and ensure reporting is accurate on a daily basis .
Responds to "action required" notifications.
Coordinates the day-to-day operation of VTS program flow, processes and functions.
Provides technical and management guidance necessary to achieve the optimum use of service resources.
Provides advisory services to the Supervisor regarding the requirements and implications of the office services provided.
Provides advice to operating managers and supervisors on how provided services assist in accomplishing their missions and programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/08/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized experience at the GS-06 level is defined as: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis; Performs a basic analysis of data and generates a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking data bases; and planning and directing a program that provides support services.
There is no educational substitution at this grade level..
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Employee will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The employee is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever changing demands due to program changes. The work is mainly sedentary in nature.
