About the Position: Work is conducted on various inpatient units and in the outpatient Pulmonary Clinic and pulmonary function laboratory (PFT) Lab. This position is subject to rotating shifts consisting of day, evening, night, week-end tours, and Federal holidays. Incumbent will work 12 hour shifts working 80 hours within a 2 week period. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD.

Duties

Set up and monitor a variety of complex respiratory equipment such as volume ventilators for critical care patients. Monitor patients closely to avoid incidents and to alter the plan as necessary. Monitor and interpret values such as pulmonary artery pressures, pulmonary capillary wedge pressures, mixed venous oxygen content, and cardiac output. Perform airway and tube care on intensive care patients. Draw arterial, venous and mixed venous blood samples from patients through blood punctures or arterial catheters. Identify and correct mechanical malfunction of equipment used in the respiratory therapy service.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
• This position has been designated as a Drug Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes treating respiratory therapy patients; and setting up, operating, or maintaining respiratory therapy equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Respiratory Therapy. (Note: Transcripts must be uploaded for consideration) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18.
