About the Position: About the Position: Work alone or as crew member in shop situation or at a work site applying a wide range of carpentry skills and techniques in repairing, constructing, remodeling, and maintaining a variety of wooden structures.
Duties
Plan and lay out work in accordance with drawings, sketches or blueprints in line with personal knowledge of necessary repairs or construction.
Select lumber, materials, and supplies, then measures and cuts materials to the required lengths and dimensions.
Install a variety of wooden structures and sub-assemblies such as rafters studs, sills, joists, floors, sub-floors, wall panels (including sheet rock, plywood and veneers), roofing, structural and trim items, and all other wood items.
At the completion of carpentry projects, paints on a variety of surfaces, both interior and exterior, where appearance as well a, protection are important.
Operates a government vehicle that does not exceed the 3/4 ton weight range.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a government driver's license.
- Incumbent will be required to lift items that weigh up to 50 pounds.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Carpenter without more than normal supervision. Perform common carpentry tasks and have performed the majority of the following duties under close supervision and direction: utilize sketches and diagrams to install pre-planned framing and partitions of wood or fabricated material; use patterns, spacing and techniques for nailing, fastening, bracing, splicing and clearing and standard joints and grooves; use shop arithmetic to fit and measure boards or sheets of material; use templates, precut or preplanned materials, determining the proper pattern, spacing and techniques. . - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires continual movements of hand and arm, including standing, reaching, and bending as well as working in awkward positions for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally, projects may require heavier effort in doing such things as climbing ladders, scaffolds, and working overhead at the limit of reach, again for prolonged periods of time. The incumbent will be required to lift items that weigh more than that, up to 100 pounds
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors in adequately lighted and heated shops and outdoors in all weather conditions. The worker is subject to cuts from hand or powered tools and danger from flying splinters or chips. Work may be unpleasant due to the presence of noise and sawdust in the air resultant from the work. As stated before, work is required at some distance from the ground, climbing on scaffoldings or ladders up to as high as 30 feet. The incumbent is exposed to injuries from accidents while operating the vehicle and unpleasant smells, or burns, from solvents when engaged in painting activities. In both painting and carpentry work, the incumbent is exposed to the danger of falls. May be exposed to toxic bites from animals or insects.
