This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS), Base Alameda, Alameda, CA.

Duties

You will serve as a Housing Management Assistant, responsible for broad on-site management functions and administration of Coast Guard (CG) Housing facilities. You will facilitate the operation and utilization of family and unaccompanied personnel housing, housing referral services, and participate in resolving a variety of common housing problems.Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS 7 level: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal sector. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line work. Examples of specialized experience include: Working in the field of housing management that required application of a variety of general business principles and practices concerning the purchase, rental, and overall utilization of housing facilities;  Conducting surveys and gathering data; monitoring program budgets; preparing correspondence and reports; Mentoring housing personnel; Processing housing applications; Maintaining rental or leasing properties files/information. OR  At least one of the following if using education to qualify at this grade level: Bachelors degree with Superior Academic Achievement (at least 3.0); OR Completion of one (1) full year of appropriate graduate level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours, or the equivalent) in a field of study directly related to the work of the position to be filled for the required one year of specialized experience; OR A combination of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in or related to the work of this position and some graduate level education that provided the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position and experience. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resource Office.

Student Loan: Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year. More than one loan may be repaid if the combined repayments do not exceed $10,000. Receipt of this incentive will require a three-year service agreement.
