The Pacific West Region is recruiting for winter seasonal Motor Vehicle Operator, WG-5703-4/5 positions intended to assist permanent staff with motor vehicle operating and other collateral duties. Duties

The duty stations for the parks are: Pinnacles National Park, Paicines, California--2 positions at the WG 04 grade and 3 at the WG 05 grade; salary information; requires collateral duties in custodial, groundskeeping, and minor construction repair duties; winter season runs from November to May; Government housing is available; Driver's License is required and travel may include 5 nights per month; Point Reyes National Seashore, Point Reyes Station, California; 5 positions at the WG 05 grade; salary information is the same as above; winter season runs from October to April; government housing may be available; Driver's License is required but no overnight travel is included; Major Duties (WG04-05): Operates and performs operator maintenance on various types of motor vehicles up to 10,000 pounds. Loads and unloads cargo, using appropriate tie-downs. Performs flagging duties for heavy equipment operators. Corrects and reports park hazards. Transports passengers and cargo on public roadways in various traffic, road, and weather conditions. Occasionally leads a crew in the performance of these duties. (WG 05 only) Pinnacles National Park Collateral Duties (WG04-05): Performs duties such as custodial, maintenance, and groundwork as needed. Performs minor carpentry repairs, simple plumbing repairs, simple electrical repair work, painting, and grounds maintenance work using basic hand tools such as hammers, pry bars, handsaws, trowels, brushes, screw drivers, tape measures, and squares. Operates various sizes of power and hand tools such as drills, chain saws, generators, hammers, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows (manual and power), pry bars, and grubhoes, and performs preventive maintenance on all tools. WG-4: Physical Effort: Light physical effort is required to operate the vehicles controls. Moderate effort is exerted in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and the occasional handling of heavier objects while loading cargo, with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. Other collateral duties may include more strenuous activities. Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Operates vehicles in all types of weather in a controlled traffic environment. Drivers are exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle. WG-5: Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort may be required in making couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs. Required to frequently lift items weighing over 50 pounds. Work may involve climbing of ladders, scaffolding, and working in and around power tools and equipment. Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.

This includes work such as: operating a variety of motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, material or equipment on private or government land; perform preventative maintenance on vehicles; load and unload cargo safely, using tie downs, straps, chains, etc. Have the ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator WG-5703-5 without more than normal supervision. (Screen out). This includes work such as: operating a variety of motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, material or equipment on public roads; perform preventative maintenance and repairs on vehicles; load and unload cargo safely, using tie downs, straps, chains, etc. Has occasionally led a crew in the performance of these types of tasks.
