This position is located in Nursing/Patient Care Services at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. The Health Technician (Telemetry Monitor) works as a member of the Acute Care Team, providing cardiac monitoring under the supervision. The incumbent exhibits skill and proficiency sufficient to effective EKG monitoring, age appropriate assessment, evaluation, and documentation. The incumbent performs cardiac monitoring after proper training, supervised demonstration, and with periodic review.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Obtains and analyzes rhythm strips every 4 hours 0800-1200-1600-2000-2400-0400
Contacts units at the beginning of each shift to identify and document primary nurse
Verbalizes actions to take when monitoring system fails. Call WHEN supervisor, primary nurse, ICU charge nurse
Confirms MD orders, assign telemetry box and completes CPRS telemetry admit note
Demonstrates how to perform a 12 lead EKG
Obtains rhythm strip within the first 30 minutes of patient's arrival to the floor, labels and stores in monitoring system. Verbalizes the need to repeat this procedure with any rhythm changes
Demonstrates skill in the operation of and monitoring of EKG monitoring systems
Demonstrates ability to use computerized software to enter data which can be properly analyzed and stored for subsequent retrieval
Upon discontinuation of telemetry, discharges patient from monitoring system, cleans telebox per IFU
Monitors patient rhythm and determines proper alarm settings after verifying with RN
Demonstrates skill in operation of monitoring of various equipment which includes cardiac monitors 12 lead EKG machines, vital sign machine machines, pulse oximetry and various other clinical equipment found in the telemetry setting.
Promptly identifies critical or lethal rhythms and notifies primary nurse and ICU charge nurse
Demonstrates how to perform a 12 lead EKGCOMPETENCY
Work Schedule: Night shift 12 hr shifts 7:00pm - 7:30am; 8 hour shift 11:00pm - 7:30am. Work hours subject to change per the needs of the agency..

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/08/2024.
Time-in-Grade Restriction - Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. These applicants must have held the GS-5 grade or higher for a year in order to meet this requirement for the GS-6 level of this vacancy. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Health Technician - Monitor Tech. Specialized experience includes assisting with providing continuous monitoring of cardiac rate, rhythm and patterns of conduction at a monitoring station. Measures prints and interprets rhythmed at designated intervals and PRN. Recognizes and reports changes in a patients rhythm that are outside the established parameters. Monitors patients vital signs and response to treatment throughout a procedure.
