The primary purpose of this position is to provide a small engine Mechanic Supervisor for oversight of inmate personnel.
Duties
- Maintains and repairs garden and small construction equipment.
- Provide technical and limited administrative supervision of inmate personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of 2 and 4-cycle gasoline powered lawn mowers, tractors, lawn mowers in sizes from 7 to 20 feet, edgers, chain saws, weed eaters, stump cutters, limb chippers, vacuum leaf loaders, mulch spreaders, sprayers and sod cutters and other miscellaneous equipment with capabilities.
- Determines all requirements in equipment and manpower for performance of assigned tasks.
- Accomplishes all required administrative tasks associated with assigned work.

- The duties of this position require the employee to operate a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and policies to include environmental directives pertaining to handling hazardous materials.
2. Knowledge of rules and regulations on conduct, safety, and personal appearance.
3. Knowledge of procedures for assignment of the proper priorities and urgency justification codes in accordance with mission requirements on all parts requisition
4. Skill in maintaining a wide variety of grounds equipment and other equipment powered by small gasoline, diesel engines; identifying repair and/or replacement needs; providing necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment.
5. Ability to recognize hazardous work conditions requiring work stoppages.
6. Ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various types of small engines and parts.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching on concrete surfaces. Frequently lifts, handles, and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, they may lift and carry items that weigh up to 50 pounds with the aid of mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors on concrete surfaces bay area, exposed to drafts, noise, and auto fumes. Continually exposed to dirt, dust, grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. Occasionally works outside under adverse weather conditions. Required to follow prescribed safety procedures and may be required to use safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, and respirators.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
