The incumbent is the supervisor for the Interior Design Team of Facilities Management Services, he or she is responsible for the direction and supervision of the Interior Design Section which performs professional, technical, and administrative interior design work associated with the planning and design activities at the highly complex multi-mission medical center which includes the NMVA Medical Center and CBOC's in Artesia, Farmington, Gallup, NW Metro, Raton, Santa Fe, and Silver City, NM.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization.
Interior Design Supervisor tracks and accounts for the status and progress of work, and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtain assistance from the Chief, Facilities Management on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly.
Interior Design Supervisor maintains an established training program along with Individual Performance Plans for all supervised staff.
Provides design support to assigned services and is the primary for providing facility wide design input to all affected areas of the NMV AHCS.
Researches and prepares technical interior design specifications including fixtures for electrical, physical security requirements, special construction for drug storage, infection control, food service and other requirements which may affect the cost of renovations or construction.
Provides technical guidance and monitoring of the contractor's performance and authorizations in regard to interior design issues.
Provides input and assists in the implementation of an optimal facility wide Strategic Space Utilization and Development Plan.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/09/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: (1) Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; (2) Performing services relative to interior spaces such as including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; (3) Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; (4) Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context; and (5) Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, and developing standards for efficient space management..
Preferred Experience: Space planning and interior design projects, requiring application of a wide range of methods, techniques and materials. Examines and analyzes existing situations and conditions to propose improvement and replacement items, frequently making on the spot recommendations and decisions including the assessment of unusual circumstances, variations in approach and incomplete or conflicting data.

Physical Requirements: Work can vary from seated at a desk in front of a computer to extensive walking throughout the facility/grounds (interior and exterior) and visitation to construction sites and several off-site facilities. Work may require some lifting (
