Duties

If selected for this position, you will serve as a Legal Administrative Specialist with a focus on Litigation Support responsible for performing technical work to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia. Duties will include a variety of automated support services necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, and manage exhibits, evidence, discovery, and data relevant to cases presented before a jury, grand jury or in other legal proceedings. In a developmental capacity, typical work assignments will include: Providing technical assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and system capabilities. Working with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) investigators, federal agents, and support staff to meet automated litigation needs. Assisting attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information. Preparing computerized trial presentations through software programs. As necessary, providing a wide variety of technical legal assistance to support one or more attorneys, which requires specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and practices of legal assistance activities. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation

Qualifications

To Qualify for the GS - 09: You must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Qualifying experience performing the following types of duties: performing routine litigation support assignments such as assisting with organizing case information (i.e., scanning and creating digital copies); assisting attorneys in preparing for court such as preparing exhibits, compiling trial notebooks, compiling witness and exhibit lists and preparing computerized trial presentations and exhibits; verifying citations; conducting research, analysis and evaluation of data in response to requests; using automated legal research tools such as Westlaw, Lexis, as well as public information databases to perform basic research of case-specific legal matters; preparing a variety of legal documents; and managing discovery. OR Possess one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Law, Criminal Justice): a Master's Degree or equivalent graduate degree (such as a JD or LL.B); or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education was obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. To Qualify for the GS - 11: You must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service. Qualifying experience involves performing the following types of duties: Working in a legal environment providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities; organizing and managing case specific discovery; analyzing complex litigation support requirements to develop or recommend appropriate strategies to meet litigation needs; using automated litigation support technology such as Sanction, Trial Director, Summation, Concordance, Case Map, Eclipse, Relativity, Everlaw, or related programs to organize voluminous case information for retrieval, prepare computerized trial presentations, and index digital evidence; researching, analyzing and summarizing relevant legal precedents; and preparing and maintaining a variety of trial-related documents. OR Possess one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Information Technology, Law or Criminal Justice): a LL. M., Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
