Duties

As a Physician (Public Health) you will: Directs and oversees muti-functional program activities involving a broad and complex range of public health programs that are operated abroad. Independently reviews reports, scientific papers, memoranda, presentations, congressional inquiries and other similar materials for the purpose of providing written recommendations concerning these scientific issues. Provides the Office of the Branch Chief with replies to inquiries received in the Division or Center for information on specific programs of the Branch. Contributes substantially to the development of Branch mission and priorities and works with Branch staff to align scientific activities accordingly. Conceives, plans, evaluates, coordinates, and implements activities related to research programs, evaluations, projects, etc., that will assist in achieving the goals of the Branch and the mission of the Division utilizing information provided from the entire scientific and medical community as well as from other components of the Division and Center. Branch Directs and provides expert advice with respect to development and sustainability of public health systems. Provides consultative advice on all aspects of the research, after the groundwork for studies has been developed, based on extensive and expert familiarity with health research and evaluation designs and implementation. Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure Requirements: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had a least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. An internship Program which involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) http://www.acgme.org// A residency program; which involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) http://www.aamc.org, or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) http://www.acgme.org/. A fellowship program; which involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. In addition to meeting the basic qualifications requirements, applicants must meet the specialized experience as stated below: Minimum Qualifications: GP-14: To qualify at the GS14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, in the Federal service, to include directing and overseeing multi-functional program activities involving a broad and complex range of public health programs. Additional Requirements Qualifications: GP-14: To qualify at the GP-14 grade level, you must have completed 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training or specialized experience directly related to the position which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include directing and overseeing multi-functional program activities involving a broad and complex range of public health programs. CTAP must meet all of the requirements outlined in the qualifications section of this announcement in order to be considered "well-qualified". Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
