This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans; Border and Immigration Policy. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior immigration policy analyst on PLCY's Border and Immigration (B&I) team. Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Policy Analyst, GS-0301-13/14, your typical work assignments may include: Identify gaps in immigration policies and operations to assist in resolving problems or coping with issues that directly affect the accomplishment of immigration goals and objectives. Plan for and develop immigration programs of national/international scope and impact. Review long-/short-range policy plans, priorities, justifications, etc. to give recommendations and/or advice on planning and implementation efforts that require additional resources. Partner with policy, legal, and operational stakeholders to achieve mission critical goals, ensuring appropriate parties are appraised and engaged in analyzing pertinent information on immigration matters. Draft and review documentation related to immigration policies and programs, including immigrant/nonimmigrant visas, humanitarian programs, immigration enforcement measures, and border security to solicit/present information. Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: For this position, specialized experience is defined as (A) Supporting the development and implementation of policies and related initiatives; (B) Using qualitative methods to assess programmatic success and assisting in determining improvements to immigration policy programs; and (C) Communicating orally and in writing to prepare complex reports, memoranda and position papers, and to solicit/present information. You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: For this position, specialized experience is defined as (A) Developing and implementing immigration policies and related initiatives; (B) Using qualitative methods to assess and improve immigration policy programs; (C) Identifying, evaluating, and recommending implementation and/or changes to policies; and (D) Communicating orally and in writing to prepare complex reports, memoranda and position papers, and to solicit/present information. Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement. Note: Current or former Federal employees MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary.
