This position is assigned to the Mechanical/Electrical department of the Kansas City VA Medical Center located in Kansas City, Missouri.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Provide technical support to installation personnel and perform design modifications in the field. Incumbent will make modifications to existing systems to meet the needs of the Medical Center. Ensure code and regulatory compliance in maintenance, repair, testing and certification. Perform work in design, development, evaluation, installation, and modification of highly sophisticated electronic systems. Maintain accurate and complete records of maintenance, repair, testing and certification of non-medical patient care devices. Conceives and recommends new modifications to existing systems/equipment design. Able to quickly troubleshoot and remedy deficiencies in low-voltage electronic monitoring control systems. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday; 8am to 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not Authorized. Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved.

To qualify for this position at the GS-9 level, you must meet one of the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-8) in the Federal Service that has given me the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Some examples of qualifying specialized experience includes: Working as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions; Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~ Education: Successfully completed two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree that is directly related to the work of an Electronics Technician, such as electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the first 1½ years) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Technical, academic, and mental demands are high. The work performed is of a precise nature requiring prolong periods of intense concentration. The incumbent works under conditions which demand extreme accuracy, high reliability, and a very high level of performing excellence. Incumbent will be required to advance his/her level of expertise through self-study, training, and trade journals in order to keep abreast of the technology changes within the field of electronics.
