The primary purpose of this position, SECURITY SPECIALIST NH-0080-02, is to serve with the responsibility to protect the organization from espionage, terrorism, and threats of unauthorized disclosure and/or compromise of information considered vital to mission interests, national defense and national security.
Duties
Implements the Industrial Security Program policies and guidelines for highly classified programs as a member of the organization's security management team.
Implements the Information Security Program by following local security policies and guidelines for highly classified programs as a member of the organization's security management team.
Establishes inspection schedules, provides out-briefings for government/contractor management and ensures corrective action is initiated.
Implements the Personnel Security Program by establishing local procedures for processing requests for security clearances for military and civilian personnel as a member of the organization's security management team.
Implements the Physical Security and OPSEC Programs as a member of the organization's security management team.

- Department of Defense Security Fundamentals Professional Certification, conferral is required within 2 years of the established employee EOD or initial assignment date to this position.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - The work is primarily sedentary. May require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items such as paper or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower broadband NH-01, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in other pay systems. Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. General Experience is described as experience demonstrating the ability to: assist with the responsibility of protecting an organization from espionage, terrorism, and threats of unauthorized disclosure and/or compromise of information considered vital to mission interests, national defense and national security by serving as a security specialist, providing security program functions in support of the organization; aid in the administration and implementation of the Industrial, Information, Personnel, Physical and OPSEC security programs as a member of the organization's security management team; acquire and use knowledge of the basic principles, concepts, policies, practices, and methods of security administration; perform elementary developmental and procedural functions; assist other security specialists and/or perform highly structured, independent assignments such as: 1) Reviewing requests for personnel or facility security clearances to assure that all required information is provided, requesting missing information from the originators, and granting clearances when derogatory information is absent 2) Reviewing reports of personnel investigations to identify the presence or absence of derogatory information and, with more experienced specialists, reviewing the impact of various kinds of derogatory information on the granting, denying, or revoking of security clearances. 3) Assisting experienced specialists in conducting onsite physical or industrial security inspections or assistance visits and assisting in the evaluation of findings and development of recommendations for changes. Or 4) Reviewing requests for information security guidance or assistance, identifying the nature of issues involved, and researching guidelines to identify the general policies and procedures that apply to their solutions. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
OR
EDUCATION: Successfully completed 4-years above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education has been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
Department of Defense Security Fundamentals Professional Certification, conferral is required within 2 years of the established employee EOD or initial assignment date to this position in accordance with DOD 3305.13-M, DoD Security Accreditation and Certification and AFI 36-2645, Security Professional Certification and Development. The listed certification requirement may not be deleted or modified without the written approval of the AF Security Functional Authority (SAF/AA) or their delegated security career field representative.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of information, personnel, physical, industrial, communications and security concepts, principles, and practices to plan and implement security in these areas.
2. Knowledge of required security training concepts, programs, procedures, and practices to assist managers in establishing and operating internal security programs.
3. Skill in developing, analyzing, and evaluating security programs to meet mission requirements and improve the security program for the organization or unit.
4. Ability to communicate orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and accurately.
5. Ability to establish effective, professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
