Duties
The purpose of this position is to promote the safe and efficient movement of maritime traffic. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
Requirements

- This position requires a Secret clearance.

Qualifications
Qualifications for GS-11: Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience directly related to the occupation equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level; OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if it is a related field of study. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples include: Working in a transportation facility or terminal which involved utilizing Federal, State, and municipal regulations governing the use of maritime vessels to perform duties, promoting the safe and efficient movements of maritime traffic; ensuring that vessel traffic is properly informed, advised, or directed in order to reduce the probability of collisions, rammings, groundings, and ensuing environmental damage and gathering, validating, and analyzing navigational safety information. The following examples of professional maritime experience are desirable: The use and skill in applying nautical charts, tide and current tables; knowledge of a variety of classes of ships and application navigation rules and regulations. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are may also be used to meet qualification requirements.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
