About the position: This position will be assigned to the Jackson Guard Natural Resource Office at Eglin AFB, FL. .

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to perform field technician support to Eglin's Outdoor Recreation Program (ORP). Responsible for Recreation Area and Management Unit grounds maintenance including but not limited to: trash pickup, mowing, weed eating, chainsaw work, fence/gate and picnic table installation/repair, fire ring installation, fishing dock repairs, and informational kiosk installation and maintenance. Assists with game and non-game wildlife surveys as necessary. Enters biological survey and hunter use/harvest data and assists with database management and associated report production. Maintains hiking, biking, and canoe/kayak paddling trails. Maintains boundary and educational signage across Installation, including coordination of signage design and annual orders. Assists with multiple special opportunity hunts annually (e.g., pre-hunt scouting, tree stand setup, hunter orientation, animal processing), including administrative support with application process. Helps maintain the iSportsman permitting and informational website and assists with permit sales as needed. Ensures ORP assets follow established safety parameters and organizes and maintains tools/equipment and receives and stores hazardous materials following established policy. Maintains captive deer pen for educational outreach and assists with animal husbandry needs and translocations as necessary. Assists in operation of seasonal hunter check station as needed, including pulling deer jawbones, removing deer heads for disease sampling, and collecting harvest data. Assists with Youth Fishing Rodeo, maintains automatic fish feeders, and inspects impoundment water control structures for functionality annually. Establishes positive relationships with multiple stakeholder groups (e.g. Florida Trail Association, Southeast Dog Hunters Association, etc.) to understands needs, reinforce ORP priorities, and leverage associated volunteer efforts. Assists with planting of approximately 100 acres of dove field annually. Assists with capture and removal/relocation of nuisance or injured wildlife as needed (e.g. alligators, raptors, black bears). Serves as a technical expert on Eglin's ORP and associated regulations. Occasionally assist with prescribed fire efforts as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Must possess or be willing to acquire a Class “B” State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License.

Qualifying Experience: Must have training, education, and/or work experience direction related to the duties required for this position. Experience using Microsoft programs suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) also required. Proficiency using electric and gas-powered tools (mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chain saws, drills, etc.) is necessary. Familiarity running ATVs/UTVs, tractors, and implements, and towing small (less than 16 feet) trailers and vessels preferred. Basic carpentry, mechanic, and welding skills a plus. Working knowledge and proficiency with iSportsman permitting system also required. Working knowledge of state and federal hunting and fishing regulations is required. Must have a high school diploma or GED. Bachelor's Degree with a focus in the biological sciences or similar discipline is preferred.
